Item Description
1951 published by Globe Poster Corp. Baltimore. 22x28.5" thin cardboard poster for performance beginning August 22. Has photo at right of sexy O'Neill in high heels with long leg with garter exposed. Show also featured comedians Al Rio & Irving Harmon. Text across bottom "Two Big Shows Every Fri. And Sat. At 8:30 And 11:30PM". Poster has some dust soil with some tears around edges and moisture mark at lower right. Top corners have holes from being nailed up and upper left corner tip is missing .5x1" piece. Despite problems most of image remains and poster is VG overall. Lynne O'Neill was born in Baltimore and educated in Evanston, Illinois where she began her career as a dancer at the Club 500. Her mother suggested she throw her garters into the audience and she became known as "The Original Garter Girl" and wore specially designed garters. Royalty, Presidents, politicians, and Generals as well as movie stars number among the important people that have been gifted with garters from Miss O'Neill. The Hudson theater in Union City, New Jersey where this performance was held began operating as a Burlesque house in the 1940s and continued in operation until Feb. 1957. Nice display item.
