Item Description
2-1/8” button dated for June 5th 1982, a special event of some type with the rest of the button reading “Xenon/224 West 43rd St/N York N York 9pm.” This nightclub was founded in June, 1978 by Howard Stein and Peppo Vanini. Stein was a promoter who brought such groups to New York as The Who, David Bowie, Rod Stewart and The Rolling Stones. He and Vanini had met at Studio 54. Xenon was considered easier to get into than Studio 54 but still many celebrities such as Warhol, Michael Jackson, Mick Jagger and Richard Avedon were honored by special parties there. Xenon patrons liked to dance, often with fewer clothes than people at Studio 54 and sometimes they wore swimsuits. The club was the first to provide go-go boxes for amateur go-go dancers to dance on. The nightclub closed in 1984. In the 1998 film “54” starring Mike Myers as Steve Rubell, he comments to his bus boys that bad bus boys “Go To Xenon.” Button is only one we’ve seen and is from the Marshall Levin Collection. Comes with Hake’s COA. Mint.
