Item Description
This and the next 2 catalogues come directly from Al Konetzni who was named a Disney Legend in 1999. In 1953 he joined Walt Disney Productions as an artist and idea man for the character merchandising division. Over the next 28 years he developed ideas for toys, clothing, greeting cards and more, featuring beloved Disney characters which were licensed for production by major US corporations. Among Al’s most famous creations is the classic school bus lunchbox which sold its 9 millionth unit in 1976. The very first Disney merchandise catalogue was issued in 1934. This is the second catalogue ever issued and next to the 1934 catalogue, is the rarest and most desirable Disney merchandise catalogue. 9x12” with 76 pages. Published by Kay Kamen. Contents are in bw/red (beware of reprints done in just bw). This original copy has glossy textured paper cover. Contents differ totally from the first catalogue even though many of the same companies are represented. Different merchandise is shown. This includes aluminum specialty company cooking sets, wheel toys by Dayton Toy & Specialty Co., Fisher-Price, jam jar bank, handkerchief sets, Ingersoll time pieces, pens, silverware sets by Wm. Rogers & Sons, 2-page spread devoted to Lionel circus train, 2 additional Lionel pages for Mickey and Santa handcars and other Mickey train sets, Knickerbocker dolls, superb 2-page spread for Old King Cole store displays, Ohio Art, Seiberling, lamps, Whitman books, much more. Cover has pulled loose from staples. Center 2 pages also loose but o/w contents just very lightly aged and remains totally clean. Contents still VF/Exc. Cover has moderate handling wear mostly along edges but remains clean and displays Fine. An invaluable reference and rare catalogue, further enhanced by being Al Konetzni’s personal copy and comes with COA signed by Al Konetzni and Ted Hake. Additional photos online.
