Item Description
8x10” glossy shows Toots Shor retrieving his hat as well-dressed DiMaggio looks on. Reverse side has attached paper credit information from New York Mirror staff photographer Hirsch with text “Photo Shows Joe DiMaggio And Toots Shor Arriving At The Church This Morning For The Services For the Late Robert E. Sherwood” with date of Nov. 16, 1955 at upper right. A few lt. handling creases, mostly just visible in reflected light. Typed caption paper has been taped in place at 4 corners with cellophane tape which has yellowed. Fine. Toots Shor (1903-1977) was the owner of the legendary Toots Shor’s restaurant (see item #1317) in Manhattan during the 1940s and 1950s. Robert E. Sherwood was an author, playwright and screenwriter. He won the Pulizer Prize for drama in 1936, 1939 and 1941 and a Pulizer Prize for biography in 1948. Unusual candid photo. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
