Item Description
Lot of 4. Born in England in 1908, these twins, joined at the base of the spine were rejected by their birth mother and were adopted by their midwife, Mrs. Mary Hilton. Almost immediately the girls went on public display in the back room of the Hilton’s pub. At the age of 8, they re-located to San Antonio, TX and were re-fashioned from a carnival to a vaudeville act. They were treated as a business commodity by their adoptive parents. In 1932 they appeared in Todd Browning’s movie “Freaks” and in the excruciatingly awful bio pic “Chained For Life” (1950). They gained and lost fortunes and lovers over the years. They died in 1969. Included here is 9.5x12” sheet music “Log Cabin Lullaby” 1926. Moderate wear to inside sheet edge & .25 corner tip off back cover. VG. Next is 3.5x5.5” real photo postcard c. 1920s with text “Violet And Daisy/San Antonio Siamese Twins.” Lt. aging. VF. Second photo postcard and 5x7” glossy promo photo likely 1940s. Ink inscription on photo reverse (does not effect front) reads “Daisy & Violet Hilton Siamese Twins/Of San Antonio Texas Are Accomplished Pianists/Both Have Been Married But Are Now Divorced.” Postcard has single tack hole at top, photo has lt. corner wear. Both Fine. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake’s COA.
