Item Description
Lot of 3 single panel original pen and ink/charcoal cartoons featuring Nikita Khruschev, the Premier of the Soviet Union, 1958-1964. All done on thin art boards. First is 11x14.5" titled "Some Day--The Reckoning" by "Columbus Dispatch" (OH.) cartoonist Eugene Craig. Depicts Khruschev at table dining on "Power & Authority" w/2 upturned chairs, one w/"Bulganin, Khruschev's predecessor. Khruschev greedily eats and drinks shouting "It's Mine! Mine - All Mine! It's Mine Alone!" to which hooded skeletal death figure in bkg. says "This Is Yours Too!" and holds "The Blame For Any Future Failure." Second cartoon is 11.25x14.5" depicting Khruschev raising the hand of Fidel Castro w/spectral images of Adolph Hitler doing the same for Mussolini in bkg. Art appears to be by artist "Tuthill." Last is 11.75x13.25" and is on thicker art board. Titled "Well, Whatcha Goin' To Do About It?" by "Beaver Falls News Tribune" (PA.) cartoonist John Shevchic and shows Khruschev standing atop Berlin Wall w/"Air Barrier Threat" on the wall and "Berlin Air Route" airplane in his hand taunting. All come w/matching mats w/first and last having cartoon title label at bottom and cartoonist's name label at top. Exc. display.
