Thin 11.5x12" panel of drawing board has original pen and ink illustration by Frederick Opper, the creator of Happy Hooligan. c. 1920-1921 piece has "The Common People" drawn as little girl addressing Uncle Sam who sits at desk w/paper reading "Allies' Debts To United States" referring to World War I debts to the U.S. not being paid by the Allies, Allies being represented by ravens on walls, each making reference to Edgar Allan Poe's famed poem "The Raven." Shown our "Small Nations," perch w/Belgium, Italy and Liberia, Liberia's raven having a black face design and say "Nevah Mo'." Larger raven represents France w/Dali-like mustache and largest raven is England who says "Nevermore Dontcherknow." Text block at top indicates cartoon is titled "Alice In Plunderland." Text reads "She Finds Her Friend Sam Having Trouble With A Lot Of Ravens Who Owe Him Considerable Kale. He Has As Much Chance To Get It Back As A Chinese Laundryman Has To Get Into The Society Blue Book. Ravens Have No Idea Of Business Obligations. They're Awfully Slow Pay. Well, Anyhow, Suddenly She Heard A Wild Despairing - To Be Continued." Opper has signed in lower right corner. Scattered handling wear and aging along margins. Still displays VF.
