Item Description
27.25x34.25" quality frame contains original pen and ink art on 2 connected sheets that has been professionally quadruple-matted to 18x23.75". Art is for Christmas, 1922 strip and has Chicago Tribune copyright in second from last panel. 11-panel story (including title panel) involves Winnie inviting 20 high society children to Perry's Christmas party. Perry then proceeds to uninvite these children and invite 20 of his less fortunate friends, which brings Winnie to tears. Great scenes w/Christmas tree and presents. Title panel reads "A Merry Christmas To All From Perry And Winnie Winkle The Breadwinner." This panel shows Santa Claus standing in front of mantle where stockings have been strung up. Perry peeks around curtain to see Santa questioning his "stocking," in reality a much larger flour sack. Classic art by strip creator Martin Branner and is signed by him in last panel. Light aging at margins, but o/w Exc. Probably one of the best drawn early examples of this classic strip. A heart-warming comic strip.
