Item Description
19.25x23.5" elaborate frame contains art that has been professionally double-matted to 8x12.5". Pen and ink with gray wash illustration showing The Wise Little Hen with her chicks, Peter Pig and Donald Duck. Bkg. shows mailbox with "Peter Pig" name and life preserver with "Donald Duck" name. Silly Symphony identification code at bottom right. This is publicity art done for Silly Symphony which featured the first appearance of Donald Duck in 1934 - "The Wise Little Hen." Short was directed by Wilfred Jackson and animated by Art Babbit, Dick Huemer and Dick Lundy. Released Jun. 6, 1934. As this was done as a publicity item, art was most likely done sometime in 1933 but we are unsure as to who the artist was. Among the earliest known Donald Duck images. Exc. One of the nicest Donald Duck offerings in our 42 year history. From the estate of Bruce Hamilton.
