Item Description
Collection of 32 buttons issued by various English pro-peace and left-wing groups with 14 buttons dated from 1963 through 1970 and 18 more undated but from same era. The peace symbol shown on many of these was created in 1958 by Gerald Holtom and popularized by the group Campaign For Nuclear Disarmament. The design is based on the flag semaphore alphabet of two arms down at 45 degrees for the letter "N" and one arm up for the letter "D" to represent Nuclear Disarmament. Of the 14 dated buttons, these show a little stain: two for 1964, two for 1965 and 1970 (very faint). Undated ones which are Row 4 #6 and Row 7 last item. Numerous rarities include Row 1 #1 "Youth Against The Bomb 1963"; Row 2 #4 "Vietnam March Of Shame 1967" and from 1960s Row 3 #3 "Remember Hiroshima."
