Item Description
1930s by Gum, Inc. Album is 6x10" Volume 1 for cards numbered 1-48. This is the first version with cover art featuring a more primitive Mickey while back cover features same image of Mickey that appears on the gum wrapper for this set. Also, this cover is without the "property" blank line at lower left that appears on the revised album. This cover text reads "Gags By Hal Horne" which does not appear on the revised album. Has 16 pages for mounting cards along with corresponding text. Contents aged. Moderate all-over cover wear and aging including dust soiling and some smudges, small surface paper rubs. VG. Set of cards numbered 1-48 are each 2.5x3" with choice color art fronts, text backs. All cards were once mounted and as such have trace of residue staining/aging to reverses but very little in the way of surface paper wear with the exception of a few cards. Card backs were issued in 2 varieties, one noting answer to question could be found on opposite card side while the other notes it was to be found on the following card. The "other side" variety is scarcer and those in this set of that variety are 2, 3, 7-9, 11, 15, 18-21, 24. All others are of the type 2 variety. Card #1 has tiny corner tip missing. Few cards have lt. crease or two. Overall card fronts show just slightest trace of margin aging but art remains clean and corners remain sharp. Aside from the wear to the card backs, for the most part fronts retain an Exc./N. Mint appearance as far as standard card grading goes. However, overall grade would be lower due to the reverse conditions, but for display purposes a very nice set. From the Joel Cohen Collection.
