Item Description
First item is likely the first ever button advertising "Buster Brown Shoes." Wonderful illustration of Buster next to Tige who holds his own satchel and waves. Unique backpaper design with tiny text naming Carroll of Chicago as the maker but the interesting part is the tiny text "Pat. Apr. 19, 04" beneath the bold text "Brown Shoe Co./Makers/St. Louis/U.S.A." Button is Exc. and displays Mint. Less historic but no less beautifully presented are 1" for "Dixie Boy Shoes" with W&H paper. 1.25" for "Patton's Sun-Proof Paints" as well as 1.25" for New England department store "Widow Jones" with the ad phrase "Suits Me." Both of these with W&H papers. Last are a pair of 7/8" classic bicycle buttons c. 1896 and both with their W&H papers. Both feature spoked wheel themes and the "Royal" includes a running tiger. Exc. to Mint and displaying Mint. See two different Widow Jones items as next lot.
