Item Description
This visually stunning piece is a 5x8" sheet of glass with a deep red border (between .25" and .5" wide) surrounding photographic images without a dot screen plus artwork in shades of black all against a brilliant silver bkg. The eagle, with "1904" above, spreads his wings to embrace large oval photos of the candidates. The eagle also holds crossed flags in his talons and a long and winding ribbon in his beak with the slogan "Peace And Prosperity" plus below the image the names "Roosevelt/Fairbanks." The maker's name is in small type at bottom right corner. All detailing is on the reverse and, as made, covered by a sheet of black paper. On the upper edge two small paper spots are gone, each about a .75x1" rectangle. If held to light, these two areas allow a small bit of light to show through the red border but this is very minor and can be eliminated simply by placing black paper at these areas. On the extreme outer edges of the glass an additional dot or two of color is gone and there are four tiny surface flakes gone. All of this is very minor and probably from the original cutting of the glass in 1904. The entire area in silver is nearly flawless with just a trivial 1/8" scratch on the front glass, barely visible over the eagle's tail feathers. A most unusual and rare jugate. The only example known to us. Quite beautiful as is or its visual impact could be further heightened by creative framing. A special piece. N. Mint.
