Item Description
9.5x12" sheet of animation paper with 2 peg holes along bottom margin and 2 peg holes along top margin as produced. Original lead pencil art showing characters from 1934 Silly Symphony including the Wise Hen, Peter Pig and Donald Duck (who made his first appearance in this cartoon). Also included are 23 separate drawings of baby chicks engaging in various activities including leap frog. This Silly Symphony was directed by Wilfred Jackson and animated by Art Babbitt, Dick Huemer and Dick Lundy. Short was released Jun. 9, 1934. This art was most likely drawn c. Dec., 1933 though we are unsure who the artist was. This is among some of the earliest drawings produced of Donald Duck. Peter Pig full-body image in upper center has 3-7/8x3-7/8" paste-over with another image of Peter in slightly different pose, holding his hat. When held to light, one can see prior drawing of Peter. Top left-hand margin has "The Wise Little Hen" text and cartoon serial number "US 20" (United Artists Silly Symphony No. 20). Sheet has even aging and shows some minor handling wear. Sheet is VF but art remains Exc. Unique and historically important. Great, early Donald Duck content. In our last auction the original art model sheet of only "Donald Duck" from this same short sold for $34,500.
