Item Description
Card #65, small size variety 2x3-1/8" of Jerome Smith who played for the San Francisco 49ers during the 1952 and 1953 seasons. Comes with 3x5.5" bw photo which is the actual photo used to produce the card in which the image was cropped and colorized. The earliest Bowman sports cards are in bw, this full color process was implemented with the 1950 cards. This pair gives you great insight into the production process and is the only matched pair of card/photo that we have ever seen. Back of the photo has notation "65 1952 Bowmans." Front of photo is signed in blue ink "Jerry Smith." This photo was given to Tom Tumbusch, as a child in 1952, by Smith who was his cousin. Card is clean and Exc. with sharp corners. Photo has moderate aging and some handling wear with few minor creases. Fine. Unique. From the Tomart Archives.
