Item Description
Lot of two. First is 9.5x12.5". 4 pages. Faremount High School, Faremount Indiana school newspaper titled "Breeze" dated Friday, October 7, 1955. Cover story with picture headlined "Death Of James Dean, Famed Alumnus Casts Pall Of Sadness On High School." Article notes "The Graduate Of The Class Of '49 Had Soared To Fame In His First Picture 'East Of Eden' And Had Just Completed Two More Pictures." Two-page article ends with "Actors And Actresses He Has Worked With Are Expected To Attend The Funeral. The Final Funeral Rites Will Be Held Tomorrow In The Faremount Friends Church." Dean was buried at Capitol Park Cemetary in Faremount. Evenly tanned with age. Three horizontal, one vertical fold. Two .5" margin tears on front as well as back. First we've ever offered and one of only a few copies known to exist. Fine. Lot also includes 7.25x10" typed letter signed by Hedda Hopper on her business stationery dated January 3, 1956. Four-paragraph letter expresses shared sadness with addressee due to the passing of "Jimmy Dean." Addressee had sent a $1.00 contribution toward a "Suitable Memorial For Jimmy." Hopper goes on to explain that the project had lost interest within the Hollywood community. Therefore, she is returning his contribution. Notation at bottom reads "Enclosed $1." 3" long fountain pen autograph. Folded for mailing. .75" split at right horizontal fold. Light wear. VG. Comes with Hake's COA.
