Item Description
12x14-3/8" Craftint artboard has pen and ink original art by William (Bil) Canfield (1920-2020), who was the Newark News' sports/political cartoonist from 1946 to 1972 and at the Star-Ledger from 1972 until 1995. He also illustrated countless books. Cartoon art was created during the lead-up to Hank Aaron breaking Babe Ruth's long-standing homerun record on April 8, 1974. Art shows the crowd cheering on Aaron, whose bat touches large "715" and Babe Ruth smirks from the shadows. Blue pencil title at top reads "1830 - April (?) 1974" and top/bottom right corners have some scattered editorial notes. Artboard has some scattered aging, but art remains clean and VF overall. Comes w/attendance certificate from the game Aaron broke the record.
