Item Description
Marvel's iconic corner boxes were conceived by Steve Ditko, designed to be the first thing readers saw on newsstand racks, since comics were frequently overlapped w/obscured titles. These small character(s) illustrations have become an indelible hallmark seen on many Marvel comics published from the 1960s and into the 1980s. Artist Joe Jusko - perhaps best known for his work on the Marvel Masterpieces trading cards of the 1990s - was approached to recreate some of these famous corner box images as commission pieces, w/Marvel eventually seeking him out to recreate this beloved art for use as variant covers, such as Jusko's original art offered here, which was published as the variant cover for Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man #1 (2017). 19-5/8x29-5/8" frame contains acrylics original art on illustration board that has been professionally and attractively double-matted to 9.5x19.5" and recreates Larry Lieber's original full body image of Spider-Man unmasking. Jusko has signed art at lower right, adding "17" date and "After Lieber" credit notation. Spectacular, NM display.
