Item Description
10.5x15.75" artboard has pen and ink original art by Howard Chaykin for Star Wars #1, published by Marvel July 1977. Art is for page 26 and is from Part 1 of Star Wars: A New Hope movie adaptation, the very first Star Wars comic book ever published. Page features six panels, with Luke Skywalker looking for C-3PO and R2-D2 at the Lars Homestead, using a control box to bring C-3PO out of the shadows in first panel. Luke is quickly informed by C-3PO that R2-D2 has left on his "mission." Last four panels show Luke and C-3PO searching for R2-D2 with binoculars before rushing off in the morning in his landspeeder in search of the errant droid. Luke appears in four panels while C-3PO appears in five panels. Last panel has been signed in black felt tip pen by Chaykin, his signature aged to brown in color but remains completely legible. Top margin has stamped "Star Wars" title along with inked issue/page numbers. Top margin has slightest trim, not affecting art. Strip of tape staining at top/bottom center margins, with small pasted page number stat at bottom center. Pin hole at top center margin. Back has Marvel copyright stamp and 1x2.5" and 1x3" strips of remnants of masking tape. Art remains clean and displays Exc.
No original art from the very first Marvel Star Wars comic has ever been offered at auction, making this an exciting opportunity for Star Wars and comic art collectors alike to add a truly historic piece to their collection.
