Item Description
10.75x15.75" artboard has pen and ink original art by Neal Adams (1941-2022) for Green Lantern Vol. 3 #80, published by DC Comics Oct. 1970. Art is for page 19. The art for this issue was inked by Dick Giordano (1934-2010) and Mike Peppe (1921-1982). Art is from the iconic "Even An Immortal Can Die!" storyline, which sees Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) and Green Arrow (Oliver Queen) accompany the Old Timer (actually Appa Ali Apsa, a Guardian of the Galaxy in disguise) to the planet Gallo, where the formerly earthbound Guardian is to face judgement from The Tribune. Unbeknownst to Green Lantern, Green Arrow or the Guardian, The Tribune has been replaced w/their master mechanic, who has rigged the jury w/a jury of  biased robots. The Guardian is sentenced to death while our heroes are disarmed and imprisoned. The art offered here picks up right after Green Arrow broke them out of their holding cell w/an improvised explosive arrow, which also conveniently destroyed the guard robot. Green Lantern quickly retrieves his power ring from another guard and they surge forward. Page features four panels, showing Green Lantern, Green Arrow and The Tribune's advance toward the Guardian, Green Lantern blasting another robot w/his ring, which causes nozzles in the walls to spray gas. The third panel features a large splash image, showing Green Lantern w/his power ring extended forward, sweating w/strain as he attempts to use it to disperse the gas. Green Lantern appears in every panel (first panel showing just his hand, w/energy erupting from his ring)  while Green Arrow only appears in the second panel. Art has been signed at bottom center margin in pencil by Adams. Top margin has stamped "Green Lantern" title along w/handwritten month of publication as well as issue/page numbers. Top margin has had slight trip, removing tops of text, but not affecting art in any way. Center of page has 3/8x1.75" strip of scattered soiling, but rest of page remains clean. Artboard has some scattered handling wear w/small pin hole at top right, within first panel, but this is not overly distracting and only noticeable upon close inspection. Back has Comics Code Authority inkstamp. A stellar example of original art from this duo's "Hard-Traveling Heroes" team-up, among the best of the Bronze Age. A must-have for Neal Adams fans, this piece is fresh to market, and the first time it has been offered at auction.
