Item Description
6.75x8.75" coverless pamphlet with 16 page titled "Life Of General Sam Houston." Text begins with his 1793 birth and extensively details his life including events surrounding the fall of the Alamo in 1836. The last date in the text is 1850. Text concludes with long paragraph about his "character." Final sentence reads "Such A Man Is Reserved, As Santa Ana Well Predicted, For No Ordinary Destiny, And As He Has Executed, With Honor To Himself And Glory To His Country, All The Highest Offices Of Trust, Which The People Of Two Nations Had To Bestow, But One, It Will Be For The American People To Fill Up The Measure Of Justice And Gratitude To A Faithful Public Servant, By Making Him PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES." "Printed By J.T. Towers, Washington D.C. - Price One Dollar Per 100 Copies." The final sheet is nearly loose from the spine with four small chips along spine margin. Paper is tanned, but extremely clean. An exceedingly rare item related to his earliest efforts to acquire the nomination for President.
