Item Description
9.25x35". White House invitation and inscribed note to Albert deRoode and Theodore deRoode, signed boldly "Franklin D. Roosevelt" mounted to top corners of image. Captioned in negative: "Harvard Class 1904 Reunion At The White House Washington D.C. April 21, 1934" and signed Schutz Photography Washington D.C. DeRoode acted as Managing Editor of The Harvard Crimson when Roosevelt headed the publication. DeRoode joined the law firm Marvin, Hooker and Roosevelt that FDR had co-founded in New York City. DeRoode served on the National Reform League Civil Service Reform Assoc. of New York and in his April 13, 1949 NYT obituary is credited in the campaigns of two anti-Tammany Hall Reform mayors, William Jay Gaynor and John Purroy Mitchel. He is interred in Arlington National Cemetery. Striking contrast w/superb detail this panoramic photograph is mounted on board. Toning to pasted invitation and note. Extremely Fine. Comes w/Hake's COA and JSA LOA. See preceding lot for related 1904 Harvard yearbook.
