Item Description
6x9.25" original high quality silver gelatin photo on heavyweight photo paper stock w/matte finish. Reverse has ink stamp "Fotografio Novoa." Team is shown in uniform and posed on a ball field.  Martin Dihigo stands at center. Also shown are manager Mike Gonzalez along with team members: Cocaina Garcia, Julio Rojo, Lloyd Davenport, Rodolfo Fernandez, Gilberto Torres, Carlos Blanco and Herberto Blanco. Dihigo was widely recognized as being the best two-way player in Negro League baseball history, Martin played for many years in Cuba during the winters while becoming a stalwart of Negro League baseball in the U.S. during the summer, starring initially for the New York Cuban Stars before brief stays with the Homestead Grays and Hilldale Daisies ball clubs during the late 1920s and early 1930s before returning to the Cuban Stars to finish out his U.S. career. Dihigo would spend another decade playing internationally, including time in Mexico, Venezuela, the Dominican Republic and Cuba throughout the 1940s. Minor handling wear. Exc.
