Item Description
11x17.25" Marvel artboard has pencil original art by John Buscema and inks by Art Nichols. Art is for the first page of Punisher: War Zone #24, published by Marvel Feb. 1994. Main story "Punisher: Suicide Run Part #5: Shhh!" Splash features the skull costumed "Punisher," face obscured by an overhead light, lying on a morgue slab while a shady looking medical examiner, scalpel-wielding Dr. Grosz, gives a pair of FBI agents the rundown on the corpse. This multi-issue crossover series has the Punisher undertaking his most extravagant hit of all - collapsing a skyscraper on a group of crime bosses. Punisher ends up presumed dead and a vigilante vacuum now takes over, as a number of psychopathic killers lay claim to the Punisher's crown. The pretenders fight crime and each other, and the series questions if the real Punisher will make his return. The storyline reveals the truth of the corpse on the slab (who in fact is not Frank Castle, aka The Punisher). Artboard w/paste-up text balloons and hand-cut "SHHH!" lettering has some lt. aging/handling wear. "Punisher: War Journal" title stamp at top margin, w/"Journal" having "Zone" written over it. Art is clean and Exc. Art has been boldly signed in black felt tip pen by John Buscema (1927-2002).
