Item Description
Each button is 7/8". Each has Bastian Bros. back paper. Great portrait photos at center in bluetone, deep red rim w/text in white of that player's name and team city. Presented here is the complete set of 10 buttons produced in 1924 as a method for promoting Mrs. Sherlock's home made bread. Certainly not lacking in star power, this highly desirable issue includes nine National Baseball Hall of Fame members. Leading the brigade of all-time greats is the incomparable George Herman "Babe" Ruth, pictured in his New York Yankees cap. In addition to Ruth, three of the other four inaugural members of the 1936 HOF class are presented: Ty Cobb (Detroit Tigers), Honus Wagner (Pittsburgh Pirates), and Walter Johnson (Washington Senators). The remaining five future Cooperstown selectees are: Rogers Hornsby (St. Louis Cardinals), George Sisler (St. Louis Browns), Tris Speaker (Cleveland Indians), Grover Cleveland Alexander (Chicago Cubs), and Rabbit Maranville (Boston Braves). Rounding out the set is Cincinnati Reds manager, Pat Moran. Minor to light traces of surface wear upon magnification. All remain bright, clean and glossy. An Exc. set overall. Paul Muchinsky Collection.
