Item Description
Offered here is an extremely rare 15.5" tall Mickey Mouse as clown Knickerbocker clown doll produced in 1935 (another version was produced in 1936). Only a few of either version are known to collectors, the most likely reason is that during this period the Knickerbocker's Cowboy Mickey Mouse doll outsold any of the other costumed Mickey dolls by a large margin, resulting in only a small amount of clown dolls being sold. Doll has stuffed cloth body w/felt ears, oilcloth eyes and original string whiskers. Dolls issued in 1935 had hands w/separated fingers and formed cardboard shoes w/flocking as seen here. Blue polka dot one-piece cotton clown outfit w/ruffled muslin collar w/matching trim and ruffled cuffs. Complete w/felt hat w/pom poms. Hat has some scattered age spotting and collar has some tiny holes. One oilcloth eye was reattached at some point and has fraying to edges. Face has evenly faded w/age. Outfit has lt. even aging. Fine overall. Doll stand, but leans forward and would require doll stand for full upright display. Rare and only the second example of Knickerbocker's 1935 Mickey Mouse clown doll we've offered in our 54 years, and this is the first example of this larger size and in this color outfit.
