Item Description
Only example known to Hake's, 1" w/St. Louis Button Co. back paper. Additional text reads "Help Us Grow." The Louisville Black Caps were a black professional baseball team that remained active for only three seasons, from 1930 to 1932. Their inaugural edition in 1930, and the one featured on this amazing relic, participated in the Negro National League, where they finished the year in eighth place with a record of 16-28. 2B Sammy Hughes and 1B Joe Scott were the club's most prominent stars. The Louisville club would remain in the NNL for only one more season, changing their name to the Louisville White Sox in 1931, before joining the lower level, Negro Southern League in time for the 1932 season, going back to the original Louisville Black Caps name as well. Back paper aged and worn. Much of the front surface has a stain but remains totally glossy. VG. Bob Westerman Collection.
