Item Description
8-1/8x10" vintage glossy photo depicting long-time black baseball pitching star, Pat Scantlebury during his late career stint with the minor league Toronto Maple Leafs. Scantlebury began his professional baseball career in 1944 with the New York Cubans of the Negro National League, where he would play until 1950. At that point, Pat began a decade of roaming around the professional baseball minors, with the exception of a very brief Major League debut in 1956 with the Cincinnati Reds, where he pitched in a total of six ball games. Scantlebury would finish his minor league career with a record of 114-78 along with 800 strikeouts, no official records for ERA were kept for pitchers in the minor leagues at that time. Image quality of the photo is superb. All four corners exhibit evidence of tape removal, likely from a scrapbook long ago. Back of photo exhibits lt. staining in a few spots. Fine. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
