Item Description
The "Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs" comic strip was released to coincide w/the release of Disney's 1937 animated film. Written by Merril de Marris and drawn by Hank Porter (both staff at Disney), the strip ran on Sundays from Dec. 12, 1937 to April 24, 1938 and was distributed by King Features Syndicate. The sequence ran in "Disney's Silly Symphony" slot, as a Sunday topper for "Mickey Mouse." Offered here is 14x35.5" mat w/6x27.5" opening containing lead pencil preliminary original art w/hand-lettered dialog for c. 1938 Sunday strip, w/art attributed to Hank Porter. Strip features title panel at left w/hand-lettered "SW. Title" notation, followed by hand-lettered story text panel concerning how all the Dwarfs but Grumpy have accepted Snow White. This is followed by two well-defined preliminary art panels, showing Dwarfs debating and Snow White crying in last panel, pleading for the Dwarfs to stop fighting about her and announcing that she'll leave. Snow White appears in both art panels while Dwarfs only appear in first. Small spot of staining to title panel. Strip's artboard is evenly aged w/vertical fold at center and scattered handling wear, but o/w art remains clean and displays VF as matted.
