Item Description
Both are rare and the first examples Hake's has offered. Both are 1.25".  Brown Dodgers button is for a team that existed only in 1945, the same year that former Pittsburgh Crawfords owner, Gus Greenlee re-emerged in baseball, this time founding the United States League. Branch Rickey of the Dodgers financially supported the league, and allowed the New York team to be called the Brooklyn Brown Dodgers. The team was managed by Oscar Charleston. The United States league lasted into 1946. In April 1947 Jackie Robinson debuted with the Brooklyn Dodgers and the color line in baseball had been lifted forever. Spring pin shaft has oxidation plus a small spot on the collet but celluloid remains stain free and glossy. The plastic bat and ribbons have a few small marks. The meaning of the "Batter Brookyln" button is unknown to us. Brown color is darker on this but the button type fonts match. This has age mark on side at 9 o'clock with a trace barely seen from the front. VF. Paul Muchinsky Collection Book Example.
