Item Description
14-5/8x21-1/8" screentone artboard has pen and ink original art by Hi Mankin (1926-1978), who drew Johnny Quick and Gangbusters stories for DC Comics, Crimebuster and Daredevil for Lev Gleason Publications as well as the "Roy Rogers" comic strip before going on to a career in animation that included "Johnny Quest." Art is spoof on the popular Volkswagen Beetle, calling it instead a BW Beetle Wagon. Art was published on page 24 of "Drag Cartoons" magazine in June 1964. Page features eight panels, extolling the features of the car, w/it ending up going over a cliff and crashing, the car's driver sitting amid smoking wreckage in last panel. Editorial notations at top/bottom margins. Screentone applied to artboard has aged and artboard itself has some scattered handling/corner tip wear but art remains clean for the most part w/just a few scattered red marks to first two panels. Art is VF/Exc. overall. Would look great framed.
