Item Description
7.25x9" vintage silver gelatin glossy photo depicts nine New York Yankees ballplayers following the 1943 baseball season when many were sent off to military duty over the next couple of seasons during World War II. "Associated Press Photo" photographer's stamp on back. During their final season before entering the war, the Yankees were AL champions w/a record of 98-56, defeating the St. Louis Cardinals in the World Series. Standing prominently at center of photo is HOF catcher Bill Dickey, w/"Navy" caption above his head. Fellow HOF second baseman Joe Gordon appears third from right w/"Army" caption above his head. Other Yankees pictured from left to right include - Frank Crosetti, Bud Metheny, Billy Johnson, Charlie Keller, Tiny Bonham, Nick Etten and Spud Chandler. Image quality of photo is excellent, front exhibits a few lt. surface wrinkles, back includes photographer's notes along w/remnants of a paper caption. Fine.
