Item Description
10x10.75x14.5" brown Mego factory shipping box contains unused Mego store display box. Assortment #51310, ©1974. Later version display box featuring DC Comics characters only as well as updated Mego logo. Also includes four of the original eight count of boxed Batman figures. Ordered through the JC Penney catalog, figure boxes had JCP stock labels on bottoms but these have come loose w/age (four are included). These stickers are rare. Shipping box has original TWA and Imperial Air Freight labels attached. The case assortment numbers were crossed out w/the Batman stock number circled on shipping box. Shipping box has moderate aging/wear including one split corner and trace of insect damage to shipping labels. Still displays nicely. Good. Store display box has never been punched out and has side/front removable display section fully intact. Top flap has not been punched but back strip of perforations have separated cleanly. Top flap has slight warp and creasing on both sides out from perforated back edge. DC Heroes graphics on top flap remain clean. Front of box has 1" edge split plus 1" diagonal tear w/lt. creasing next to tear. Small tear at one lower front corner. VF. Original assortment for this case would have been three Superman figures, eight Batman figures, six Robin figures, two Aquaman figures, three Shazam figures and two Green Arrow figures. Lot includes four of the boxed Batman figures (#51301). Original owners ordered only one these of Batman figures and were  surprised to receive a full case of boxed Batman Mego figures shipped w/this display box from JC Penney. All are unused w/lt. aging/wear. One has window loosening at bottom while others remain firmly attached. One box has minor creasing at bottom of "Batman" name/logo above window. Boxes are VF overall while figures remain NM as packaged. Obtained from the original owner and fresh to the market. This display box is very rare and is the first we've seen or offered. A true rarity for Mego and DC Comics collectors alike. Comes w/comprehensive provenance from noted Mego historian Benjamin Holcomb detailing the production, eventual distribution and history of this lot in regards to how it came to be in the possession of the Miles Family.
