Item Description
79x79" linen-backed poster for the 12-chapter Republic serial starring Tom Tyler in the title role of Captain Marvel and Frank Coghlan, Jr. as his alter ego, Billy Batson. This serial was adapted from the popular Captain Marvel comic book character then appearing in Fawcett Comics publications "Whiz Comics" and "Captain Marvel Adventures." Poster features wonderful action scene has Captain Marvel hoisting large gold scorpion figure above his head as villain "The Scorpion" battles at lower right. Art for the one-sheet, three-sheet and six-sheets for this classic movie serial all featured different art, the six-sheet being the most dynamic, both in sheer size and graphics. Poster has had restoration to fold lines, corner pinholes, edge chips, and small tears. Fine as linen-mounted. All posters for this movie serial are rare, this being the only known copy of the production's six-sheet. In recent years, interest in as well as values of all 1940s Captain Marvel movie serial posters have dramatically increases, w/a Chapter 1 one-sheet selling at auction in 2017 for $31,000 and $33,000 for another in 2019. This exceptional and rare piece will easily become the focal point of any superhero or movie poster collection.
