Item Description
Double-sided 15.25x40.25" aeronautical flight map for Pan-Am flight 801, which flew from San Francisco, CA to Honolulu, HI Dec. 6, 1956 has typical markings/notations along flight path made by flight crew but has the added bonus of being illustrated by one of the flight's passengers - Walt Kelly, know for his "Pogo" comic strip. Kelly's original art of various characters including Pogo Possum, Albert Alligator, Beauregard Bugleboy III, Churchy LeFemme, Howland Owl and Porky Pine have been rendered in lead and colored pencils. Pogo is featured twice; a large portrait at lower right and a smaller image in scale w/the other characters. Kelly has also signed in pencil, inscribing "Best Ever And Thanks To Cap'n Gray - From Pogo And Walt Kelly." Kelly further personalized the art by having Churchy fishing from "S.S. Cap'n Gray" boat. Rolled as issued w/some lt. scattered handling wear. Exc. Truly one-of-a-kind piece for the "Pogo" and Walt Kelly collector.
