Item Description
"All-Star Superman," a 12-issue comic book series featuring Superman that was published by DC Comics from Nov. 2005 to Oct. 2008. Written by Grant Morrison, the series was drawn by Frank Quitely and digitally inked by Jamie Grant. Offered here are Quitely's graphite and blue pencil original art for the cover to "All-Star Superman" #6, featuring full body image of Superman standing at the grave of his adoptive father Jonathan Kent (whose tombstone is misspelled "Jonatan" and was corrected for publication), a mournful look on his face. Superman's faithful canine companion Krypto looks up at his master w/a concerned expression. 11-1/8x17" DC Comics artboard has Quitely's name, "ASSMan" title notation and issue number in blue pencil at top margin. Art itself is on 8.25x11.5" sheet of artpaper that has been mounted at center. Image area measures approx. 7x9". Quitely has signed in pencil at bottom right of artpaper. Small spot of staining at lower right margin of artpaper/artboard w/faint spotting to artpaper. Art could be matted for a VF display. Quitely is noted for his work on "New X-Men" and "The Authority" before gracing the pages of DC's "All-Star" line, working on both Batman and Superman, "All-Star Superman" now being counted among the greatest tales ever told about the Man of Steel. All Frank Quitely original art is highly sought after and rarely comes to auction, especially a piece of this caliber. If you are looking to add Quitely art to your collection, you won't find a better example than this. From the collection of Chip Kidd, renowned author, graphic designer and pop culture enthusiast extraordinaire. Comes w/specially designed and signed Chip Kidd bookplate.
