Item Description
14x22" thin cardboard poster advertising a concert at "Buckholts Hall Mon. Jan. 9" featuring the "Nation's Foremost Western Show & Dance Band! Bob Wills And The Texas Playboys." Designed and printed by "Colorcraft Poster Co., Okla. City" this window card features a floating head portrait of Wills, cacti, fence posts and a silhouette of cowboys. A less than .25" vertical tear in top margin just above the "S" in "Buckholts" and a .5" wide chip at the bottom right corner. Otherwise moderate age toning and light handling. Fine. Wills' was one of the founders of Western Swing music and the genres most notable performer. Buckholts is a small town Northeast of Austin that had a population of under 800 in 1950. Despite the relatively small population Buckholts Hall was a lively honky-tonk. Given the remote location and small population it's unlikely that many of these poster were produced. A rare survivor of an important era of country swing music.
