Item Description
15.25x20" sheet of vellum w/mixed media original art for proposed premium sign advertising "Illustrated Novel." This 1940s prototype sign includes images of six different novels, including - "Stroke Of Twelve, Bells Of Happiness, Mr. Cummings Goes West, Sagebrush Saga, Harmony In Heart" and "Romance Of Alice Trent." Sign has hand-lettered text noting these novels were 96 pages and featured "Your Choice Of Mystery, Romance, Western, Humor, Adventure, Intrigue." Additional text notes "There Are 6 Fascinating Novels In The Series! One Novel Attached To Each Package" though no product is specifically mentioned as box image at lower right remains blank. Sheet has two vertical folds and three horizontals folds, each showing lt. wear along them. Sheet shows moderate handling wear w/creases and some minor loss of paint to some text. VG/Fine overall. Comes w/two 6-3/8x7-3/8" prototype books featuring all original art front/back covers w/blank pages. Extremely well done front covers are for "Harmony In Hearts" by Charley Phelps and "Mr. Cummings Goes West" by Geo. B. Eads. Back covers have rough illustrations of other books in series w/lines indicating additional text about them. Hand-lettered text notes titles and premium offer. Books have lt. even aging and are VF/Exc. Very interesting and unique lot for the book collector. From the archives of premium creators Sam & Gordon Gold and comes with LOA.
