Item Description
1.25" w/Bastian Bros. back paper. Unlisted in Hake. This golden shield border design is more commonly found featuring the 1908 major party candidates (see lot #189 and #234) with examples of the four 1912 candidates rarely available. This Debs/Seidel is unquestionably the rarest of the four including the TR/Johnson. It is likely that the few survivors were produced as samples and never ordered in quantity. For extreme accuracy we note a thin smattering of stray red ink just affecting the top of Debs' portrait and that the design is a touch off center to the right. These minor flaws occurred during manufacturing and this button is otherwise extremely clean. NM displaying Mint as made. Whether you're trying to complete the 1912 set, are an advanced Debs specialist or someone who seeks only the finest- this is likely a once in a lifetime opportunity to obtain this outstanding Socialist party rarity. One of the treasures of the Ron Koot Collection.
