Item Description
10.5x16.5" thin artboard w/smaller 10x15" sheet of vellum attached has pen and ink original art by Gil Kane for page 7 of "What If?" #24, published by Marvel, Dec. 1980. Page has four panels and "What If Gwen Stacy Had Lived?" story by Tony Isabella features Uatu the Watcher pondering alternate worlds, w/four images of Spider-Man appearing across three panels. The Watcher ponders what would happen should if Spider-Man's and Gwen Stacy's destinies had played out a different way. Hand-lettered word balloons were cut out and pasted in place. Top margin has stamped "What If?" title and a number of editorial notations (some crossed out). Additional notations at bottom right. Back has 1980 Marvel copyright stamp and extensive handwritten notes about the issue, including story title as well as noting Peter Poplaski's work on finishes and Frank Giacoia's work on inked figure outlines. Top left and bottom corners have been clipped but this does not affect art. White correctional fluid stands out as vellum sheet has even moderate aging. Fine overall, but would make for a nice display if matted and framed.
