Item Description
11x14" mat display has cut opening at bottom for 2.25x3.75" unlined card bearing black steel-tip fountain pen signature of American Civil War General William Tecumseh Sherman (1820-1891), who received recognition for his outstanding command of military strategy as well as criticism for the harshness of the "scorched earth" policies he implemented in conducting total war against the Confederate States. Sherman has signed "W.T. Sherman - General." Card has single pin hole at top corners and back has small inked number w/mounting tape residue. This does not affect front's display, which remains VF. Comes w/vintage 1874 engraving by Alonzo Chapel and based on photo by Gurney. Published by Johns, Wilson & Co., print has facsimile signature at bottom center. Margin aging as matted over the years. Would make for nice framed display w/signature. Comes with Hake's COA and JSA LOA.
