Item Description
Large and impressive 40.75x53" wooden frame holds wonderful cover recreation for "All Star Comics" #33 (Feb. 1947) featuring Golden Age Justice Society of America villain Solomon Grundy looming over large crystal ball that has trapped members of the JSA (Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Flash, The Atom, Hawkman, Doctor Mid-Nite and Johnny Thunder) within. This illustration was for "The Revenge Of Solomon Grundy" cover story and art was recreated by the original cover artist - Irwin Hasen (1918-2015), noted for his 1940s work on Green Lantern and for creating Justice Society of America member Wildcat. Beautifully mixed media original art cover recreation on 26.75x38.5" sheet of rag content paper which was then applied to canvas w/dark blue painted border. Art is further enhanced by crafted custom frame created by artist Dan Makara, featuring cut out comic panels from 1940s comic issues featuring various JSA members like Flash, Green Lantern, Hawkman, Wonder Woman, The Spectre, Doctor Fate, Doctor Mid-Nite, Wildcat, The Atom, Red Tornado (and The Cyclone Kids), Johnny Thunder and The Thunderbolt as well as other Golden Age DC Comics characters like Aquaman and Superman. Hasen has personalized art at bottom, writing "To My Dear Friends Dan And Fran" in pencil. Hasen has signed at lower right, adding "2010" date. Exc. Dan Makara Collection.
