Item Description
22x28" on cardboard. Likely produced for the April 18, 1951 arrival of MacArthur in San Francisco, his first visit to the US since 1937, upon his relief of duty by President Truman. At the time polling showed the majority of Americans disapproving of Truman's decision arousing rumors that he may seek the Presidency. Press coverage in the San Bernardino County Sun noted that "There Were Several 'MacArthur For President' Signs In The Crowd" at the large welcoming event in San Francisco. Significant wear including bends, tears, lower right corner separation repaired w/archival tape, holes and nail hole in each corner. Good. This poster clearly saw outdoor use and is the only surviving example we have encountered in our 50 years. A historical and truly rare artifact from the return of the lone wolf General to his native land.
