Item Description
14.5x19.75" thin artboard has pen and ink original art originally used for cover to "Daffy Duck" #24, published by Dell Publishing Jan./March 1961 (later republished by Gold Key as the cover to "Daffy Duck" #54 in Sept. 1968) . Art by Warner Bros. animator Phil De Lara, who worked on Dell/Western Publishing and Gold Key funny animal comics. De Lara was w/Dell/Western from 1950 to 1973 and worked mainly w/characters from nearly every animation studio at the time, serving as the primary artist for Daffy Duck. Cover features Daffy w/bindle stick containing crow. Art has area of glue staining over Daffy's face as his head was redrawn for the finalized comic. The separate paste-over featuring the updated pen and ink art is also included, showing a slight difference in Daffy's unkept head feathers. Artboard has some inked production notations at top margin and two aged strips of masking tape along lower right. These do not affect art in any way. Despite glue staining, art still displays VF. Nice example of twice-published cover original art. Comes w/worn reading examples of both issues that featured this art on the cover. Art also comes w/metal printing plate featuring two pages of Daffy Duck comic art, including Daffy w/Elmer Fudd and Yosemite Sam. Plate was used for Gold Key's "Daffy Duck" #37.
