Item Description
4x4.75" badge featuring donkey wearing a 'DFL" placard and carrying a "Kennedy Olson Rally!" pennant. Additional text includes "Reserved Bleacher Section" and hand inscribed "Mrs. Milton Wernner Bean Feed Comm." Alec Olson was candidate for Congress from the sixth district of Minnesota. The cancellation of this October 7, 1962 event was officially reported as due to inclement weather but history has revealed that Kennedy needed to return to Washington to focus on the escalating Cuban Missile Crisis that brought the world to the brink of nuclear war. That same day Cuban President Osvaldo Dorticos spoke at the UN General Assembly saying "...we have sufficient means with which to defend ourselves; we have indeed our inevitable weapons, the weapons, which we would have preferred not to acquire, and which we do not wish to employ." Two pin holes at top center affecting the first "L" and "!" in "Rally!" and a horizontal crease at center that detracts minimally. Otherwise only minor handling wear. Extremely Fine. A rare and historic coattail item.
