Item Description

One of two designs produced by Ostby & Barton of Rhode Island in 1941. Rings were offered as a premium for the "Superman Defense Club" milk program, costing two bottle caps and 10¢. Hake's Pop Culture Memorabilia Price Guide reports only ten known examples. Four are in Good condition, five are Fine while there is just one in VF condition. By comparison, the other ring from the same promotion (featuring an initial letter and eyeball on top) has 27 known examples. That version has a Superman sticker on underside of removable top whereas the variety offered here does not (as issued) as this version features an image of Superman on the ring's top. Sides of the ring show a star and planet. Snap-off brass top has letter "S," diagonal lightning bolt and well-struck and classic image of Superman from the waist up, breaking a chain across his chest w/image surrounded by accent lines. Ring bands are nicely formed w/o noticeable bends. Must luster remains on top piece and on interior. Most bright luster missing from sides and bands, w/some highlights remaining. Fine overall.
