Item Description
2x2-5/8" Cuban card issued as a premium by Billiken brand cigars. Cards in this set feature players from the 1923-24 Cuban Professional League. The set includes 15 cards each for the four teams that participated that season: Almendares, Habana, Marianao, Santa Clara. Glossy front features a bw photo, player's name and team. The back of the card has an ad for "Billiken." Cards in this elusive set are among the scarcest and most popular of the pre-war Cuban issues.

Manuel Cueto played 20 seasons in the Cuban Winter League from 1912-1933,  batting over .300 11 times. He led the league in batting average twice, in 1918-19 with an average of .344 and in 1926-27 with an average of .398. He ranks tenth all-time in career batting average in the Cuban League, with an average of .301. He was elected to the Cuban Baseball Hall of Fame in 1950. This card is graded 50 VG/EX 4 and is designated by SGC as being from the "Richard Merkin Collection" and comes with Hake's COA.
