Item Description
Original illustrated envelope contains two pieces of cardboard noting "Compliments Of The Chicago Sun - Be Sure To Read The Exciting Adventures Of The Spirit On The Comic Pages Of The Chicago Sun Every Day, And Sundays In The Color Comic Book! You'll Like Skytroopers, Capt. Midnight, Barnaby, Nancy And All The Rest!" 8x13.5" thin cardboard die-cut mask was issued between these cardboard sheets by "The Chicago Sun" newspaper c. 1942. Front of mask is signature hat and mask of The Spirit and is complete w/eyeglass style temples. Reverse notes "Compliments Of 'The Spirit' The Chicago Sun's Famous Comic Strip Character" and goes on to mention Captain Midnight radio program. Envelope features images of The Spirit, Ebony White, Commissioner Dolan and Ellen Dolan. Envelope is aged and shows wear along right where opened. Scattered handling wear w/creases. Fine. Cardboard inserts are Exc. Mask itself is in choice, NM condition. Rare and first we've seen complete w/inserts.
