Item Description
Trilobites are a well-known fossil group of extinct marine arthropods, one of the earliest known groups. Offered here is a lot of five complete fossilized trilobites, including examples of Metacanthina issoumourensis (Atlas Mountain Range of Southern Morocco), Psychopyge elegans (Atlas Mountain Range of Southern Morocco), two specimens of Odontochile hausmanni and one unidentified species, likely of the Phacopida Order. Trilobites measure between 2-3/8" to 3.5" long. One of the Odontochile specimens is bent in half as fossilized and presents nicely on original stone matrix. The Pschopyge specimen is especially nice as the long shovel-like rostrum protruding from the front of the fossil is immediately distinctive (it has been theorized its use was for scooping up food) and the numerous spines are nicely presented. The unidentified specimen has some moderate wear, w/tips of cephalon chipped off. Still a nice assortment for beginning or adding to a collection.
