Item Description
Pair of 11.75x19" Strathmore Bristol artboards w/pen and ink original art for "Species" #2, published by Dark Horse Comics in 1995. Based on the 1995 sci-fi thriller of the same name, the comic was adapted by Dennis Feldman, who also wrote the film's screenplay and created the alien Sil (based on designs by Aliens designer H.R. Giger). Art by Jon Foster w/inks by Brian Kane. Foster has painted covers for DC Comics, Dark Horse Comics and Tor Books while Kane went on to write "Hal Foster: Prince Of Illustrators, James Bama: American Realist" and "The Definitive Prince Valiant Companion." Story deals w/a failed experiment to clone Sil. Page 19 features seven panels and shows Sil graphically killing a woman who disrupted her attempts at acquiring a mate. Page 22 features Sil in room w/partially dressed man (whom Sil has chosen as a mate). After determining the man was genetically inferior, she changes her mind. The man grabs her and she kisses him, killing him w/her tongue, which emerges from the back of his neck. Sound effect text is hand-lettered paste-over. Both pages have been signed by both Foster and Kane at top. Exc. From the collection of comics and illustration historian Brian M. Kane.
